2. TNC-SEACMPA website � The Nature Conservancy�s Southeast Asia Center for Marine Protected Areas (TNC-SEACMPA) has launched its new website www.tnc-seacmpa.org. This new site contains complete information about TNC-SEACMPA and its programs in Indonesia, along with downloadable reports of the various programs. SEACMPA aims to establish and support networks of marine protected areas in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Coordinated from Bali, their on-site conservation programs are spread throughout central and eastern Indonesia, in Komodo National Park, Wakatobi National Park, Raja Ampat Archipelago and the Derawan Islands. They are working in close partnership with governments, communities and businesses in creating collaborative management mechanisms for marine protected areas that bring tangible long-term benefits through the sustainable management of marine resources. 3. Artificial reefs and reef fish in Hong Kong � A new book on reef fish in Hong Kong is now available. This book is the first of the Marine Conservation Series. It provides a brief account of the use of artificial reefs in Hong Kong. The book also provides a pictorial guide to reef fishes found on Hong Kong�s artificial reefs. It is a useful guide for divers and those interested in marine reef fishes of Hong Kong. Development of grouper culture in Taiwan � a solution to reduce destructive fishing practices in coral reefs � This article is published in INFOFISH International, Number 3/2004, May/June issue. The author (Dr. Chen-Chih Kao) provides fairly details description of Taiwan grouper industry with some statistics from 2001. In 2001, there were around 600 grouper hatcheries and grow-out farms covering total area of 700 ha. The species produced in hatchery including Epinephelus coioides, E. malabaricus, E. lanceolatus, and E. fuscoguttatus. Annual production of grouper fingerlings is around 20 million tails, and in 2001 the total production for market-sized grouper was around 7,000 mt. FAO publication on "Capture Based Aquaculture" - FAO has just released a new publication "Capture Based Aquaculture" that includes several reviews of the status of marine fish aquaculture, including grouper, and the dependence of this type of farming on wild fishery resources. This publication was prepared with the financial assistance from the Government of Japan under the International Conservation and Management of Fisheries Resources Trust Fund Project (GCP/INT/715/JPN). We will providea more detailed review and internet site in future editions of the newsletter. Mariculture in the Asia-Pacific region: Recent Developments and New Challenges, NACA will organize a special session on mariculture for the 7th Asian Fisheries Forum, (Penang, Malaysia, Nov 29-Dec 3, 2004) in partnership with FAO, WFC, ACIAR, TDH and others. The session will be for one day, and combine invited presentations together with tropical mariculture papers submitted to the conference organizers.
