Study Program on Marine Aquaculture and Seafood Markets 2005, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, China. The Asia-Pacific Marine Finfish Aquaculture Network is pleased to announce a Study Program on Marine Aquaculture and Seafood Markets in China. The Study Program will take place from
4th 15th July 2005 and is intended to introduce participants to the demand side of the live marine seafood trade, and latest developments in marine fish farming and seafarming in China, the worlds biggest aquaculture producer. Marine aquaculture is becoming an increasingly important source of supply of seafood, with breakthrough in hatchery technology for several commercial important species opening new opportunities for supply of quality products. Future demand for groupers and other marine species will be increasingly met by aquaculture production. At the same time, China has become famous for diversified marine farming, and has evolved many new techniques and species to respond to diverse market demands. The Study Program is intended to introduce participants from exporting and producing regions in the Asia-Pacific area to the markets and marine aquaculture in southern China. Specifically, the Study Program is organized to provide:
The Study Program brings is organized by the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA), in cooperation with the Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Ocean and Fisheries, Guangdong Fishery Society, Guangdong Dayawan Fishery Development Center (Department of Marine & Aquatic Products, China), the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) Hong Kong SAR. It is one of the activities of the Asia-Pacific Marine Fish Aquaculture Network, supported by the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA). The Study Program involves visits to markets and marine farming areas, private hatcheries and centers of excellence in Guangdong, Southern China and Hong Kong, with an emphasis on centers and farms involved in innovative farming practices, major markets and with wide experience of marine aquaculture development including private enterprises and research facilities. The Study Program also involve visits live seafood markets, traders, and restaurants in Southern China and Hong Kong, covering the whole marketing chain for live seafood products. Field visits will be supplemented by informal briefings and mini-workshops with local farmers and specialists to enable participants to interact fully with local industry leaders and experts. Full professional translation facilities (Chinese-English, and English-Chinese) will be provided to facilitate full and efficient interaction with local farmers, importers, scientists and industry specialists. The Study Program also provides a valuable opportunity to establish commercial and scientific contacts and collaboration with Southern China and Hong Kong, the two biggest live tropical marine reef fish markets in the world. The Second International Symposium on Cage Aquaculture in Asia Cage aquaculture has a long history in Asia, but it is only in recent years that it has been widely practiced and recognized for its potential, especially for off-shore cage culture in open sea. The first cage culture symposium was successfully held more than five years ago and the aquaculture community will be meeting again in Hangzhou city, China to discuss the recent advances, potentials, challenges and problems of cage aquaculture in Asia. The second international symposium on cage aquaculture in Asia (CAA2) scheduled for 3rd to 8th July 2006 will discuss the following topics: Recent advances and innovations in cage culture technologies For a copy of the preliminary announcement brochure click here. 3. Employment Opportunity - Our business partners seek to employ a person experienced in the holding, packing and shipment of live tropical reef fish. As a developing business, the successful applicant will be required to locate in the Maldives, Australia and the Asia Pacific for extended periods. The successful applicant will be working directly with the business overseeing the live packing, shipment of tropical reef fish and implementing the business development plans of the company. These development plans include grouper and coral trout aquaculture and fish processing. It is essential applicants have experience and/or qualifications in the live reef fish trade or aquaculture of tropical marine reef fish (grouper/coral trout).
